Gravyology

profileGravyology is a school of thought or branch of knowledge that stems from the original thoughts of Gravy. It refers to, in a broad sense, diverse thoughts, theories, and practices based upon the principal ideas of Stephen Graves.  Gravyism is a sociopolitical worldview and method of moral inquiry that centers on an introspective method to understanding the differences between people in a given population and a dialectical view of the inequalities and inconsistencies in American society.  A  Gravyist understanding of history and society conceives of the inequalities and inconsistencies present within any population as the result of a corrupted perception of society based on widespread ignorance which leaves only a small proportion of the population with the necessary capabilities to adopt the highest form of reason consistent with the common good. Essentially, American society and politics has been corrupted by rampant individualism and self-indulgence that eradicates the bonds of community and the ability to achieve group desired goals.

A Gravyian analysis begins with the advancement and promotion of the common good.  According to Gravy, everyone has an individual responsibility to advance and better the common good.  A group can always accomplish more than a single individual and those things done to promote the common good and improve and advance mankind are the greatest achievements and accomplishments.  Thus, the common good is the highest form of good achievable by mankind.  It represents the resources and contributions that are necessary to sustain, protect, and improve the conditions of all members of a given population.  Consequently, there are also negative patterns of behavior and ideologies that are inconsistent with the good of all members of society and should be avoided.

Gravy presents a Messianic vision to liberate society from the perpetual ignorance which diminishes the potential of society to accomplish the common good.  To attain the highest accomplishments associated with the common good and achieve greatness requires the strongest individual will power.  The will refers to the training and control of one’s conduct for personal improvement or ability to exercise dominance over the desires of the body or self in order to accomplish a difficult task or overcome adversity.  A person’s will is one of the most distinct parts of the mind in addition to reason.  It is one of the things which make a person who they are and is especially important because it is the part which determines whether people act, in particularly when they act deliberately.  Individual strength of will is what separates individuals – some people will naturally work harder than others and have the dedication and commitment to achieve greatness.  This is historically and unquestionably a small percentage of the overall population.

The desire for greatness is first made mentally within the conscious of the individual and the majority of people will/do not have the drive, sacrifice, or commitment to achieve great things.  Essentially, although there are no natural differences between people, the individual will exercised by some people creates inequality.  Those who work harder to contribute and sacrifice for the common good should be treated differently.  Thus the attainment of the common good is obstructed by enforcing “false” equality through promoting the values of an ignorant majority in contrast to those who work the hardest and have the most knowledge consistent with the common good.

Gravy developed his theories based upon the critique and analysis of American history, culture, and the influence of capitalism on the aspirations and motivations of individuals.  He formulated a unique, comprehensive theory by incorporating the philosophies of Plato, Aristotle, and other classical political theorists, the influences of moral political thought from such authors as Machiavelli and Nietzsche, and the liberating visions of Marx, W.E.B DuBois, and Malcolm X.  Gravyology is a challenging philosophy based on the acquisition of knowledge and self-reflection that investigates and exposes the true nature of people’s thoughts, actions, and their subsequent inequalities.
